NAS - WATERMELON SONG

I was talking to some friends online yesterday and they were talking about this video. I had not seen the video until they sent me a link, but I am happy they did.

I think the video conveys a strong message, not only for hip hop, but for national social awareness in general. I admire Nas for making his voice heard with such a shocking video. I am wondering where the video will air, considering it's content, but nonetheless amazed. If you are interested in more truths about how racism truly works, rent or purchase any of the fine Paul Mooney DVDs.

BREAKING AWAY with Mellow Johnny's & Rapha

Mellow Johnny's, Rapha, and Alamo Drafthouse teamed up to re create the epic final race of 1979's Breaking Away. Here is the sneak preview for the upcoming film from the event.

CANON AE-1

I have always wanted to try photography out, but have never had more than a simple point and shoot, polaroid, or any other sort of generic camera until now. I recently got a Canon AE-1 off of craigslist (my lord and saviour) for a dirt cheap price. It took me a few days to figure out exactly what was going on with it and after a tutorial a homegirl, I finally have something to show for it.

I started a flickr set called Canon AE-1 where I will be posting all my newest prints. Here is what I have so far!

I figured out that just like records (analog), I am addicted to shooting on film now. This might change when I get my Nikon, but we will see.

FADER MAGAZINE x BACARDI "SOUNDCHECK" PARTY

Wooooo! I finally found the Austin 360 posting from the Fader Magazine party last week at the Scoot Inn. The pics are great and the turnout was amazing. For that missed out, you might get upset with these pics.

Fader has teamed up with Bacardi for a series of events of the last few months. The B-Live series has mega headliners, which you may have heard of with the whole Jazzy Jeff issue, and they have had the Soundcheck parties with local parties on a smaller scale. They did a 10 city tour with Soundcheck and Austin came out strong, actually having the most people attend out of the other 9 cities... including New York!!!

Thanks to my people at Fader Magazine for having me play both Austin and Dallas, Rufus at Scoot Inn, Austin 360, and everyone for spreading the word and love.

INSECT RECORDS in FULL EFFECT

This just in from Twitter, my good homies over at Rec Spec have finished up the Insect Records website.

They have released a series of 45's from some of Stones Throw's roster, including a split from Dudley "Declaime" Perkins & Georgia Anne Muldrow, as well as have other Austin based releases in the works.

For more info on what they have in the works or have already released, visit the site... Insect Records

I welcome Insect Records into my life and hope that Ben and the rest of the IR staff have a great number of years and releases in the future ahead.

::NOTE::
I am keeping my fingers crossed on this one, but there is a potential Prince Klassen release in the works. Shhh, don't tell anyone.

BREAKING AWAY + LITTLE 500

Two of my favorite bike peoples hollered at me again for a great event next week. Rapha, whom we did the roller races with last year and Mellow Johnny's are teaming up once again. This time they are holding their version of the Little 500 in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the 1979 cycling film, Breaking Away.

For more details on the event, you can go here. BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE!!! Mellow Johnny's be holding the after party screening one of the best cycling movies ever made at 9 that evening with drinks and good vibes.

SWAG SURFIN IN THE D

The homie Select (formerly of The Party) sent this over to me the other day, and I finally have a little time to post about it. As a lot of you know, Dallas is the new Houston, only with a lot more white people (wamp wamp). For years southern rap jams were just pouring out of the H, but now Dallas is taking it's turn.

Here are some words from Select...

"I just wanted to share this "DALLAS" mix tape I just finished! Dallas is catching some wreck for some of our local artist...so I figure put out a mix of tunes poppin out here. PLEASE feel free to share or pass along. I will also have a "SUMMER REGGAE" mix tape out this next week. So be on the look out!!! It's going to be a hot summer! believe it!"

SANTI FEVER

So after coming back from hitting the Texas roads with the Fully Fitted posse, I decided to make a couple of quick mixes for future dj sets. Santi would perform her Jay Z collab sans Jigga, and it made more sense to me to just cut the fat. The Dengue Fever joint is something I made for fun.

COSMO BAKER TWEETS THE TRUTH

It's funny how things work out and this is just another example. I have been feeling so much anxiety lately with sucker duck dj's really stepping on toes, and finally someone pulls cards and says everything I am feeling. Cosmo is one of my favorite djs in the entire world, and he is a huge influence on me. I just wish things weren't so different now.

Sorry for image size fluctuation. I couldn't get them exactly the same, but it's not about presentation, it's about the message.

If you wish to follow Cosmo Baker via Twitter, you can reach him here

SA-RA - NUCLEAR EVOLUTION

Well my guy over at Ubiquity blasted out an email with a nice look at the finished version of the new Sa-Ra record. I have been bumping it for about two months now, and I can easily say that it is one of my top records of the year. The album had been pushed back from it's original release, which would have been this past Tuesday, to June 23rd. I highly recommend going to your local record shop and purchasing it.

Here is a sneak peak from the album...
