SWAG SURFIN IN THE D

The homie Select (formerly of The Party) sent this over to me the other day, and I finally have a little time to post about it. As a lot of you know, Dallas is the new Houston, only with a lot more white people (wamp wamp). For years southern rap jams were just pouring out of the H, but now Dallas is taking it's turn.

Here are some words from Select...

"I just wanted to share this "DALLAS" mix tape I just finished! Dallas is catching some wreck for some of our local artist...so I figure put out a mix of tunes poppin out here. PLEASE feel free to share or pass along. I will also have a "SUMMER REGGAE" mix tape out this next week. So be on the look out!!! It's going to be a hot summer! believe it!"

SANTI FEVER

So after coming back from hitting the Texas roads with the Fully Fitted posse, I decided to make a couple of quick mixes for future dj sets. Santi would perform her Jay Z collab sans Jigga, and it made more sense to me to just cut the fat. The Dengue Fever joint is something I made for fun.

I am in love with both, Chhom Nimol and Santi White.

COSMO BAKER TWEETS THE TRUTH

It's funny how things work out and this is just another example. I have been feeling so much anxiety lately with sucker duck dj's really stepping on toes, and finally someone pulls cards and says everything I am feeling. Cosmo is one of my favorite djs in the entire world, and he is a huge influence on me. I just wish things weren't so different now.

Sorry for image size fluctuation. I couldn't get them exactly the same, but it's not about presentation, it's about the message.

If you wish to follow Cosmo Baker via Twitter, you can reach him here

SA-RA - NUCLEAR EVOLUTION

Well my guy over at Ubiquity blasted out an email with a nice look at the finished version of the new Sa-Ra record. I have been bumping it for about two months now, and I can easily say that it is one of my top records of the year. The album had been pushed back from it's original release, which would have been this past Tuesday, to June 23rd. I highly recommend going to your local record shop and purchasing it.

Here is a sneak peak from the album...

NORRIT - FEEL THE RHYTHM remix EP

My guys over at Think 2wice aka Brent Tactic and Ben Tactic of Kansas City/ Portland's Tactic sent over the remixed ep of Norrit's FEEL THE RHYTHM this evening. I am not one to post music unless I think it's either A) horrible or B) one of my homies doings... this falls into category B.

I know the kids like it evvy, and this is just that. Good and evvy, done tastefully though. They got a nice list of remixers on board and they have given me the green light to post one of the chunes for free.

If you have any interest in supporting quality people's, make this a must have over at Beatport!!!

TRACKLIST:
1. Feel The Rhythm (Norrit Remix)
2. Feel The Rhythm (Dubbel Dutch Remix)
3. Feel The Rhythm (White Girl Lust Remix)
4. Move feat. Royce Diamond (B. Rich Remix)
5. Move feat. Royce Diamond (Phosho Remix)
Ballroom Marfa

Here is the video I made from my recent trip to Marfa in West Texas. Ballroom Marfa had me out to close their weekend benefit that also featured a dinner set by the one and only Esteban Jordan as well as an acoustic set from Lyle Lovett. The theme was "desert disco" and I took it there. Oh and I recorded the set from Marfa and managed to record over it this weekend. I have done that too much lately.

Thanks to Ballroom Marfa for having me out there and everyone I met. Can't wait to go back.

BIKE GRINDING

I know I know, everyone is on some fixed gear ish as of late, but I have to post pics of my bike either way. I have been working on it lately, and am really proud of the turn out. I regret not taking any "before" pics to show the outcome difference, but the "after" pics are far out. By the way, I don't ride a "fixie". I have ridden a single speed for the last five years, and don't plan on converting. Cmon Cmon...

Thanks to Chad and Mellow Johnny's for helping me get it together and the parts. A really big thank you to Willit's for the powder coating job. I am still working on it, so there will be an update soon enough.

The Disco Files 1973-1978: New York's Underground, Week by Week

Wax Poetics has been killing it lately with their always amazing coverage of artists and musicians from decades past and current times. There was a bit of a dry slump where I didn't buy every issue, but for some reason I can't get enough as of late. I think as I get older, archival subject matter is so much more important to me. I am sure a lot of you know that I am a huge disco fan. With the most recent email blast from WP, I learned about a new book that covers the birth of disco. Needless to say, I immediately bought it.

Thumbing through the book, I can tell it is well thought out and seeing that Dj History backs it, there is no going wrong. The odd thing about the book is that I called my local bookshop to see if they had by chance (shop local!), and they said it does not release until September.

Dj History
also has a new interview posted on their site with the author of the book, Vince Aletti. Highly recommended, and seems to be rare, so get your hands on it before its gone... or comes out in September?!?!

Buy it at Wax Poetics

:UPDATE:

Bill (Brewster, I am assuming) from Dj History hollered and left a comment about the mix up with the release dates and it's availability. He says it has been available in the UK since early June, and will be released in the US in September. Wax Poetics bought direct from them, and so can you!
